edinburgh-2013

Last Saturday I was in Edinburgh to see 3 shows as part of the Edinburgh Festival………

Bianco by NoFit State Circus – this has to be one of the best aerial acrobatic circus shows I’ve seen at the festival. The visuals and the skills from the performers, especially the rope movements were excellent. So good I might even go back to see it again.

A man found an eagle’s egg and put it in a nest of a barnyard hen. The eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them. All his life the eagle did what the barnyard chicks did, thinking he was a barnyard chicken. He scratched the earth for worms and insects. He clucked and cackled. And he would thrash his wings and fly a few feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day he saw a magnificent bird above him in the cloudless sky. It glided in graceful majesty among the powerful wind currents, with scarcely a beat on his strong golden wings. The old eagle looked up in awe. “Who’s that?” he asked. “That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” said his neighbour. “He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth – we’re chickens.” So the eagle lived and died a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was.

Anthony de Mello (1931 – 1987) Jesuit Priest

Are you an eagle living the life of a chicken?……….

Last week I watched a webinar by Carrie Green about YouTube Video Marketing. Featured was the talented James Wedmore - an expert on YouTube Video Marketing who makes lots of entertaining videos sharing his advice and tips on how you too can create great, professional looking videos. For a long time now I’ve read statistics about the popularity of YouTube i.e. it’s the second most popular search engine after Google, with increasing numbers of people starting to search in YouTube for a video to answer their queries, etc – but I’ve never actually taken any action to create my own videos, and take adavantage of YouTube’s potential. I’ve just consumed videos, rather than create them. Read more…

I recently attended the Aye Write book festival in Glasgow. One of the book talks I went to was by Tony Juniper who wrote the book “What has nature ever done for us?” . He explained how natural systems sustain our welfare. Looking after the environment, whether it’s a local forest, rare frogs or a protected wetland, etc is often seen as an expensive luxury, that damages economies, costing jobs and a loss of business, etc. Tony explained why damaging the environment/nature can hurt us financially. If governments and big corporations understand that looking after nature can help enrich them, then maybe there’s a better chance that they will help protect the environment. Read more…

Michel Thomas (born Moniek (Moshe) Kroskof, February 3, 1914 – January 8, 2005 in Lodz, Poland) was a polyglot linguist, language teacher, and decorated war veteran. After emigrating to America after WW2 he developed a language-teaching system known as the ‘Michel Thomas Method’. His audio language courses are bestsellers, and highly rated. I haven’t tried using any of his audio courses, but I have recently purchased his Germand CD course, so hopefully I’ll find it helpful, when i get round to listening to it. Read more…

It took me 3 hours to drive down to the Wigtown Book Festival yesterday, but it was well worth it. It was the first time I’ve been to Wigtown and it’s a nice little town, with an attractive market square lined with many old buildings. Wigtown is Scotland’s National Book Town and is now home to over 20 book-related businesses. So, its an ideal town shopping wise for book lovers like myself – I ended up buying five books while I was there. Read more…

Excellent presentation by Erwan Le Corre at the Ancestral Health Symposium 2011. Hopefully I’ll be able to add the slides from his presentation soon. Definitely worth watching:

ABSTRACT: What is the best fitness program for a panther, a wolf or an eagle? The way evolution and nature intend them to: they move naturally and become amazingly fit in the process. Why should it be any different for us? MovNat is a unique physical education and fitness system based on methodically training the full range of our human evolutionarily natural movement aptitudes. The presentation will cover the MovNat rationale, what distinguishes MovNat from conventional fitness and general physical preparation programs, and introduce you to our main training principles. I travelled down to Brighton, England last weekend to attend an Ido Portal workshop – his first ever in the UK. It was arranged thanks to Steve Cork of Sussex Boot Camp, who I met in April 2010 at an Exuberant Animal seminar in London. Prior to booking myself on the course I didn’t know that much about Ido or what the workshop would cover. However,  I’d seen some of his amazing YouTube videos in which he demonstrates impressive agility & strength – such as one arm handstands, so I was sure he was a guy worth meeting and learning from. Thankfully that turned out to be the case. Read more…

I recently spent a couple of weeks in Thailand during which I attended a week long Movnat Workshop, which was coached by Vic Verdier on the beautiful island of Koh Lanta.

This was the second Movnat workshop I have attended – my last one being in Mexico. I had always wanted to visit Thailand and thought it a good opportunity to fulfil that ambition, while at the same time have a refresher on Movnat training, as well as increasing & improving my existing knowledge on Movnat.
